Frequently asked questions

  • How much is it?

A photoshoot with 1 person including 1 print (15-20 cm) costs € 95. Other print sizes are also available for an additional charge. See pricing.

  • Can I be photographed with others?

Yes, that is possible. The Milkmaid and William of Orange provide the opportunity for people to be photographed together. So your 17th century portrait can be made together with your dear ones, like your family.

  • How does it work to make a 17th century portrait?

    1. Arrival and dressing upYou choose the setting where you want to be photographed. One of our employees will take you to set. We will select the correct costume and size depending on the masterpiece you have chosen. You don’t have to undress. We provide you with a clean t-shirt that you put on over your own clothes, with the costume on top. An assistant will help you with this.  2. Composition and photoWhen you are dressed, you take your position in the chosen setting. The photographer will make sure you are in the right place and position and will give you directions to capture you as a masterpiece.  3. PrintsWhile you remove the costume, we print your photos in the desired format. This only takes a few minutes. Please feel free to look around in our small ‘Vermeer Museum’ while you wait, see Dutch masters collection.

  • Is there a make-up artist present?

No, there is no make-up artist in the photo studio. But don’t worry, there were no make-up artists around in the 17th century, either.

  • How long does it take?

Usually a visit takes about 45 to 60 minutes. First we start with an introduction and a small tour through the studio and museum items, followed by choosing which outfit and setting you would like. The photoshoot itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes. That includes dressing, getting into position, taking the photo, changing clothes, printing and paying.

  • Do you follow the regulations of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM)?

We want to keep you and our staff healthy. Read about the measures we are taking so we can continue to take photographs safely below.
We ask you to adhere to these rules so that we can (continue to) do our work safely.
    - In addition to our staff, a maximum of four people are allowed in the photo studio. - Keep 1.5 metres distance from each other and our staff. This also applies if you are waiting outside to get into the studio.- You will receive a clean t-shirt to wear under the costume. - Our staff will wear masks. If the photographer needs to get closer, for example to straighten a collar, they will wear a face shield in addition. - Disinfectant hand gel is available at the entrance.

  • Will I get my money back after a cancellation?

If you cancel the day before the shoot by email or telephone, you are entitled to a full refund of the amount you paid minus € 25 administration costs. If you do not show up or cancel on the day itself, you are not entitled to a refund. This also applies to a reservation with a gift card, which then automatically expires.
